How to get six pack abs while enjoying life

Posted on December 5, 2021 by Vibhuti Khanduri

If there’s one thing that we all wished at some point in our lives, it is this : how to have that chiseled waistline. In this article I will reveal in detail, the right diet to eat and right way to train so that you can get those six pack abs, without having to compromise with your ability to enjoy this beautiful thing called life.

At this moment. you may be doubting whether it’s even possible to have a six pack abs while enjoying life ?  Isn’t getting abs all about grazing on some some esoteric diet ? Can a lay man have six pack abs ? Can you get abs while eating a regular Indian diet ?

The answer to all these questions is a resounding yes ! I have always believed to walk the talk. Before professing anything in this blog, I test it’s effectiveness and feasibility in my own life. Consider the following picture that I clicked after Diwali festivities and was posted on our Instagram page:

Diwali is a festival to spread love and joy. Therefore I don’t abstain myself from having delicacies during this festive period. As a result, each year after Diwali I am the least shredded version of myself. And yet, I managed to be shredded enough, so as to show off my abs in this photograph.

The point of telling you all this, is to drive my point home that you can absolutely have six pack abs while enjoying life. More importantly you don’t need to eat something fancy for it. Just follow along as I will guide you on how it’s possible.

How to get six pack abs while enjoying life

Take a look at the chart above and gauge your current fat levels. Now as you can see from the chart above, in order to make your abdominal muscles or abs visible, if you are a man you need to target the less than 15% body fat level. Whereas, if you are a woman the good news is that you will see your abs shine through, once you have dropped down below the 22% body fat level. This disparity is mainly because in guys, fat primarily gets stored in the belly. As a result, guys have to drop more body fat than girls, so as to get those six pack abs.

Also it needs to be said that having healthy fat levels is essential for effective functioning of body and for our brain to stay sharp. Hence you should tread with caution regarding your targeted body fat levels. In my personal experience, body fat levels below 11% make you feel weak and feel blurry in the mind. Therefore as a recommendation, body fat levels in the range of 10-15% are sustainable, while you continue enjoying life.

Developing the right eating habits to get the six pack abs

Diet is the foundation on which you build those abs. Hence if you want to get those long desired abs, you need to clean up your diet first. In order to lose fat, you need to consume less calories than you burn. This allows your body to reach the state of ketosis, in which your body starts to burn the stored fat so as to derive energy to sustain itself. However, counting your daily calories is not sustainable for the long term. Intermittent fasting takes care of your daily caloric deficit needs. Thereby in a previous article I discussed, why and how you can practice intermittent fasting for fat loss.

Few additional tips to develop the right eating habits:

1) Try to decrease the your carbohydrates intake and eat more calories in the form of protein and unsaturated fat. If you are looking for a diet plan, you can check this diet plan, through which I managed to lose 2.6 kilograms in 7 days.
2) If you want to build muscle while losing fat.  you must put your body into a state of caloric deficit while having at least 80-90 grams protein. In order to make sure that you are eating in a state of caloric deficit, along with the practice of intermittent fasting, you should also follow the following ancient Japanese saying, “Hara hachi bun me”, which means that  you should eat only till your stomach is 80 percent full.

Training the right way to get six pack abs

One mistake I see a lot of people make is that they consider abdominal muscles as an insolated muscle group like biceps. However in reality that’s not the way your body works. Your abdominal muscles are used for any work you do, whether its lifting weights inside the gym or stabilize your posture. Also fat gets accumulated in your stomach, every day. Hence it’s imperative to train your abs at least 5 days a week, if not daily.

Another mistake a lot of people make while training abs, is that they train abs in long arduous sessions. Whereas the effective way to train abs is to train them in short but intense bursts. This is because goal of abs training is to strengthen your core which is done through anaerobic training.

However abs training alone won’t get you those six pack abs. Abs training strengthens the core and tone the abdominal muscles but overall, they burn few calories. In order to have fat loss, you need to burn more calories than you consume, This can be done faster when performing movements which employ multiple muscle groups of yours such as Suryanamaskars, running, pullups, burpees,  squats, deadlifts, bench presses. However if there’s only one exercise that you can do, it should be this.

Therefore, I would highly recommend that you include a short but intense 7-8 minutes abs circuit at the end of every training session. The shortness of the abs training session will make you stick to your  abs training for the long term, thereby helping you get the six pack abs, which you always desired.

Following is a quick 7 minute abs training routine that you can Include in your abs training. This video covers all the basis of ab training such as lower abs, middle abs, upper abs, obliques. Each exercise is for 1 minute each. If you are a beginner chances are that you may not be able to last for 1 minute of an exercise. Don’t worry about it, take rest and resume again. Remember your only competition is your old self.
