As on the day of penning down this article, the entire world has been grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic. With no one except, perhaps the Chinese Government knowing for sure, how to deal with this human induced mayhem, there is hysteria all around.
Never since the World War 2, has the world faced such uncertainty. With the people being forced to obey social distancing norms, many industries will be loosing their businesses. This will inadvertently affect finances of almost every house hold.
Kenneth S. Rogoff, a Harvard economist, remarks, “This is already shaping up as the deepest dive on record for the global economy for over 100 years,” he said. “Everything depends on how long it lasts, but if this goes on for a long time, it’s certainly going to be the mother of all financial crisis.”

Everyone around the globe has been spilling out their predictions of how the humans are doomed. However, now we’ll find out why the current pandemic may be a blessing in disguise !

Ever since the advent of the internet, everything has been at man’s disposal with a mere mouse click. With the blinding speed of pre Covid19 era, man fell into the death trap of consumer culture.
“Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need.” – Tyler Durden, The Fight Club
The astute ad campaigns run by various brands, the shrewd algorithms on which social media platforms run on, have made us always craving for more.
Had a fight with your partner ? Log on to social media and find another girl to talk to.
Not feeling good enough to work ? Here’s your one month free Netflix subscription. Just binge watch and act as if the trouble will disappear on it’s own.
Want to look like that shredded Instagram model ? You have got to have a gym membership and take the expensive protein supplement.(Concepts invented in the 20th century even though people did build muscles and lose weight before that !)
With the growing greed of human kind to consume, we have become escapists. Always looking for quick fixes, rather taking the tougher road to go to the root of our problem.
No wonder then, we as a society have been struggling with fractured inter personal relationships, living a life of greater discontent than ever before.
Even though our standards of living have been at an all time high, our happiness index has been on a gradual decline,
The World has hit a Reset Button
With the pandemic hitting the world hard, we have been forced to slow down the pace of lives we have been used to. There have been lesser options to choose from, to eat and drink. No clothes’ purchases. No outings at fancy restaurants and bars. No lavish parties. No theater outings to keep us entertained . No gyms, no sports’ tournaments to distract us.
Yet here we are, able to survive all this and still finding a way to stay fit and healthy. Probably we never needed so much, in the first place.
Perhaps, most of our life is spent in running after wants rather than needs .
The Way Out is Love !
With our mad rush to chase things, we started widening the gulf in our inter personal relationships. Believing the void is due to the lack of possessions , we act like the dog, who tries to catch his tail. Thus, creating a bigger void, in our interpersonal relationships.
During the lock down I hope we all sit and reflect on the life we have been living and that when the lock down period finally ends I hope we all come to some common conclusions on the life lessons learnt : less is often more ,a major reason of dissatisfaction in our lives is more often due to lack of rich inter personal relationships ,and that before being a consumer of love try to be a producer of love.
